Pine Needle Baskets
Pine needle basketry is a coiling technique using pine needles of America and raffia from palm trees of Madagascar, an island off the coast of Africa.

Some preparation is needed to be done before the needles can be used. First -they have to be washed and rinsed in cold water. Then put in the oven for 3 hours, then rinsed and dryed . The best needles to use are from 12 to 18 inches in length. Preparation time is about 8 hours. Making each basket takes about 36 hours.

Mikki House comes from a family from Six Nations Reservation in Oswego, Ontario, Canada -- Chippewa (Ojibwa) and currently resides in Tucson, Arizona.
