As far back as I can remember I’ve had a love affair with the camera and the artistic medium called photography! My path of discovery started at the age 12, when I picked up a little brown box of a camera called a “Kodak Brownie” I remember the excitement of taking, then waiting for and finally seeing, for the very first time, images I had captured. The excitement continued as I grew and learned how to process film and print pictures in a darkroom. Watching an image form on that exposed paper in the developing tray mesmerized me and filled me with wonder as I watched my pictorial vision come to life.

During my life I have been privileged to be involved with journalistic photography for the various schools I attended and their publications. I started from scratch, a portrait studio, in Iowa, and was honored with awards for my portrait photography including twice being named one of Iowa’s “Top Ten Photographers,” and also winning a Kodak “Gallery Award” for photographic excellence.

Although I am mostly self-taught, my passion for photography, God-given ability, and drive for perfection, were not enough. I have been fortunate to have had other photographers willing to mentor me, helping to shape and refine me as a photographer, while challenging me to grow in this medium. It was my mother, however, who taught me to see what so many people miss. The beauty of small details in the big picture!

In 1996, due to my wife’s health, we closed our studio, and moved our family to Tucson, Arizona. I was left with a basic 35mm camera and the desire to continue pursuing my passion for photography. Learning to capture the rugged beauty of our desert, and the rare, delicate beauty of our flowers and wildlife, replaced people, pets and weddings, first on film and then in digital capture.

Today, I do things I once only dreamed of! I can expose a frame, preview it instantly, and later, after I process the RAW image in my “digital darkroom,” print it on my photo printer, and then finish it as a piece of fine art without the image ever leaving my studio.
I enjoy immensely the wonder of seeing, firsthand, the breathtaking beauty of God’s creation all around us, first with my eyes, then through my camera and lens, on the computer screen, and finally on the wall. It’s absolutely amazing!

I continue to passionately pursue excellence in all that I do and take great pleasure and pride in pulling together the perfect components to create the beautiful works of art on display here.
