Pilar Rinky Media : Sculpture I created these low-fired clay ornaments by first sculpting the original, making a mold and then, using clay slip, pour the pieces, fire them and then hand paint each individual. A matte finish is added to help seal the paint and a high gloss is added to the eyes, nose and tongues. No two are exactly alike. Also, not recommended for outdoor use. ![]() Ringtail This life-size ringtail was sculpted out of low-fired clay, hollowed out to lighten the weight and to help dry it out before
firing it. After removing it from the kiln, I hand-painted it,
then used a matte finish to help seal the paint and added layers
of high gloss to the eyes to help give that “real” look to them.
The real ringtail I used as my model lives at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. This is an original piece. No mold was made from this piece and no mold was used to make it. ![]() |
